- Styrofoam balls
- Ribbon, or cut strips of cloth
- Glue gun
- Other supplies dependent on decorating (i.e. twine, flowers, paint, stencils)
One day while I was again window shopping in Kirkland’s, I saw some really cute orbs that were simply covered with strips of ribbon and placed in a cute basket. I thought it would be such a great idea for a living room table. The possibilities were endless. So, I decided to add my own little twist and create a few of them. I know I’m biased, but I think they turned out pretty awesome. The good news is you can be as creative as you like!
Begin by finding the center of the ball and measuring the ribbon from the center of both ends of the ball. Once you have done this, cut the ribbon and use this as a template length to cut several more. The number of strips needed will vary depending on the size of the ball you are using and the width of the ribbon.
Once you have cut all the strips you need, cut splits on both ends of the ribbon. Fold each split over the other and glue together. This will allow the ribbon to curve around the ball more evenly. Now, begin gluing.
After all areas of the Styrofoam ball have been covered, you can start to decorate them as you like, or leave them simply as they are.
And finally for the last one, I decided to randomly wrap it in twine.
All in all, I was pretty impressed. I hope you will be too!
